Benny is a musician and an educator who born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii. He has studied at Seattle University, The Cornish College of the Arts, and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a Master of Education from the University of Pheonix. He is a recipient of the Na Hoku Hanohano Award with Ken Martinez Burgmaier, Dennis Kamakahi, Brother Noland, Kevin Brown, Sonny Lim, Cindy Combs, and Sonny Lim. As youth Benny was mentored by Dorothy Thompson, George Naope, Al Nalei, and Edith Kanakaole . Presently, he is a teacher at the Samuel K. Kalama Intermediate school as a teacher and the director of the school’s Ukulele band. He plays a variety of musical styles, such as contemporary and classic Hawaiian music, pop favorites and a touch of jazz ,rock, and blues.
